Vegan Desserts

How cool is this? The latest issue of Desserts Magazine is devoted to vegan baking! And you don’t even need to be a subscriber to view the whole thing (or download it as a PDF, if you prefer).

Normally, I wouldn’t post about such high-fat fare. However, just as with Zenburger, it’s exciting to see veganism break into the mainstream in any guise, even if it’s just in case “you ever run out of eggs, butter, [or] milk.” We can educate people about making it healthier once folks have gotten past that first leap of faith. ;)

Desserts Magazine – VEGAN Issue

Featured cooks, with recipes from their books, include the prolific author Dreena Burton:

the new kid on the block (literally), Hannah Kaminsky, the well-known Isa Moskowitz with her cupcakes, and others like Jeff Rogers and Fran Costigan, respectively:

Then there’s Ania Catalano, a name I’d not heard before, with some vegan recipes from her non-vegan cookbook:

And, to my mind, we have the star of the show, the respected and beloved vegan blogger, Susan Voisin. Why the star? Because she’s pretty much the only one of the bunch who contributed low-fat treats! :)

Maybe someday she’ll write a book. In fact, I’d be happy to help her — or any of my readers — get their first ebook up on-line.

Lastly, a reminder. As you flip through the pages, you’ll come to a center section of vegan products used in the recipes. Many of them are available at Vegan Essentials, for which I recently posted some coupon codes, good until October 4th. (And for those who’ve expressed distaste for Amazon, you might want to take Buy.com up on their claim to take 10% off Amazon’s prices.)

By the way, I have to laugh about putting Vegan Cupcakes Take Over The World on the blog. The hype surrounding it actually supplied a good deal of the impetus for me writing Vegan Done Light. In fact, I mentioned it by name during my interview with a local paper.
