Play A Game, Feed The World?

As a logophile, activist, and game enthusiast (though I prefer those involving strategy, like chess and Go, or even Texas Hold’Em), this fun on-line challenge nicely covers all the bases.

What does playing a game have to do with activism, you ask? Well, with this one, for every correct answer you give, the socially-conscious advertisers* on the site donate rice to feed the poor.

*For example:

Gaiam.com, Inc

where I got my body pillow.

If you enjoy those word game booklets you can pick up in the grocery store, or are studying for your SAT‘s(!), I think you’ll like this too:

FreeRice.com

Have fun! We all win with this game. :)

My daughter does this all the time, along with her friends at school.
Every afternoon she comes in and tells me how much rice they have
donated. I have to look into what they are actually doing.

She plays vocab games and donates a grain and I write a check
and donate a truckload. (Every grain counts).

I’ll ck out the Gaiam site again. I didn’t see the game, but I’ll surely try to find it. I purchased my favorite Pilates DVD from them. Guess I should look closer! Thanks for the info.

Actually, the game to which I was referring is FreeRice. It’s an on-line vocabulary quiz. Just click on the button and have a blast. :)

    Erin,

The kids just saw the Story of Stuff a couple of weeks ago.

we also were addicted to the Rice game…..I count all that as credits toward their homeschooling
It was weird to see both here on your blog too!
