As an aside, it turns out the 13 consecutive moves by Anand’s knight in Game 6 set a new record in World Chess Championship play. The previous having been held by Tal during his 10th game loss to Botvinnik in their 1961 match. And four of those were part of a repetition sequence to gain time on the clock.
Thought you might enjoy the quick finish on this one played today at the International Open in Balaguer, Spain.
9.dxc5 appears to be a new move with which White built an active position. It went downhill fast for Black when he played the queen to b7. White jumped on the pin—or should I say pins!?—ripping things open with the lever 16.c4.
I encourage you to stop around move 20 and work out the mate on each of Black’s responses. The patterns are quite enjoyable.
Quick heads up! I got an email today with a coupon code for 10% off at ChessHouse thru the end of the month. Just enter July08 on the order page for your discount. Shhh…
